Beginner Freediving Course in Sliema, Malta
The AIDA 1 freediving course is designed to be an introduction to recreational freediving for the complete beginner. It aims to help the student to develop basic skills, knowledge, and safety procedures necessary to enjoy freediving safely.
The course will tackle basic freediving equipment, breathing and relaxation, equalization techniques, as well as basic safety aspects for freediving.
Theory
The student is asked to go through the AIDA educational material beforehand (the material will be sent upon booking), in order to be able to focus on practice during the course. On the day of the course, the main points will be reviewed and all questions answered.
Open water session
The course is made of one open water session, which will happen right above a shipwreck on the Sliema promenade. The deeper you go, the better your view of the wreck will be... Them maximum depth for AIDA 1 though is 10m.
Pool session
Static apnea is a freediving discipline in which the diver holds his/her breath for as long as possible with the nose and mouth immersed while floating on the surface of the water. Depending on the conditions in the water, we will either practice in the sea (at the same location as the open water session, holding on to our buoy), or in the Sliema's swimming pool.
Included in the listed price
Educational material (sent before the course), freediving equipment, AIDA certification, and insurance.
NB there's no specific requirement for the AIDA 1 certification, besides attendance.
Private course
This course will be a private, one on one course. No other student will be present. If you do wish to bring along one or two friends, a discount of € 25 will be given to any additional student. To maintain optimal conditions, three students at the most will be accepted.
Important
Please do not drink alcohol and avoid using the AC or eating dairy for at least 3 days before the course. Any of these are likely to cause sinus congestion which will make it much more difficult to equalize your ears as you go down the water.
Documents
Please note that AIDA International's standards strictly require students fo fill in the AIDA medical statement and the AIDA liability release before any course. They will be given to you in paper form at the beginning of the course.
