The AIDA 2 Freediver course is for confident snorkelers or swimmers who want to learn all the basic theories and techniques of freediving. This is probably the most challenging and rewarding AIDA course. For those who are already confident in the open water, this course is your starting point. It gives you a foundation of good techniques and safety so that you can later on buddy with other AIDA 2 freedivers and train on your own.
The course consists of:
- two theory sessions
- one breathing and relaxation session
- two confined water sessions (swimming pool)
- three open water sessions
- one exam to take at the end
Theory
The student is asked to go through the AIDA educational material beforehand (the material will be sent upon booking), in order to be able to focus on practice during the course. On the day of the course, the main points will be reviewed and all questions answered.
Open water session
All in-water sessions will be held at the lighthouse bay of Dahab. The maximum depth for AIDA 2 is 20m.
Pool sessions
Static apnea is a freediving discipline in which the diver holds his/her breath while floating face down on the surface of the water. Dynamic apnea is the discipline in which the diver swims horizontally either in a pool or in a confined water environmement.
Included in the listed price
Included in the 2.5 days of the course ; Educational material (sent before the course), freediving rental equipment, and AIDA certification once the requirements of the course are met. The requirements to be certified are:
2min in static apnea
40m in dynamic apnea (finning under the water in a pool)
16m in constant weight (finning down)
Further coaching sessions can be booked after the course to either continue with your training or to complete any requirements not reached during the course.
Private course
This course will be a private, one on one course. No other student will be present. If you do wish to do the course with a friend or two, a discount will be applied the additional student/s. A maximum of 3 students will be accepted. However under special circumstances, the course can be taught in larger groups when requested, and additional instructors will be present.
Important
It is your responsibility to be healthy, fit and ready for your course. If you have a history of sinus issues, it is advisable to visit a specialist ENT Doctor prior to the course as it may be difficult to re-book any missed sessions during busy times. Documents
Please note that AIDA International's standards strictly require students fo fill in the AIDA medical statement and the AIDA liability release before any course. They will be given to you in paper form at the beginning of the course.
